Episode 3: Bridget Jones's Diary (2001)
/“No, I like you very much. Just as you are.”
-Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001)
Hello there! It's time for Curtis Convos to blast out of those dusty '90s and into the 21st century. That's right, today we're talking 2001's Bridget Jones's Diary. Renée Zellweger stars as the hapless and too-hard-on-herself Bridget, while our good floppy-haired friend Hugh Grant turns evil this time around. Colin Firth is here to play one Mr. Darcy, which luckily is something he's known to be particularly good at doing.
Such a charming movie, yet it offers much to ponder. Does Bridget's awkward appeal still hold up in the year 2026? Is Hugh Grant simply more fun as a villain? There may be a Mr. Darcy present, but how similar is this movie to Pride and Prejudice, really? One of these questions has a definitive answer, but you'll have to listen in to find out which. Or possibly just watch Paddington 2.
Enjoy! And remember that we appreciate you, just as you are.
